Seafood in SF
Where can I get good seafood in SF? Love lobster, any fish, and good clam chowder. I prefer not to go to Fisherman's Wharf area.

I first became acquainted with Tadich Grill during the late seventies when I had a four month client engagement in SF. I ate there at least twice per week during that time. For many years thereafter I would frequently fly up there for a day or two JUST to go to Tadich’s. The Crab Louie, Petrale Sole, Lobster Thermador and the Cioppino were standout favorites of mine. Part of the charm was the classic vibe and the history in knowing that I was eating in the oldest restaurant in California. I also really appreciated the straight-up, no-nonsense, old school service. The frequency of my visits has lessened in recent years; however, this (old) post has prompted an imminent return. Thanks much!

re: degustateur
"Oldest restaurant" is a debatable claim, depends on how you define it. Tadich has been in business since 1849 but its present location dates back only to 1967. The Old Clam House has been in the same location since 1858 or 1861.

FWIW, here's a link to seafood places in the Chronicle Top 100:

I like Sam's, Tadich and Original Joe's (for filet of sole).
