Angie's Mexican Restaurant (Fresno)
Stopped here, on a whim, for lunch yesterday. Sign on the door reading "hand made tortillas" drew us in.
It's a little order-at-the-counter type of place with a fairly conventional Mexican menu: nachos, tacos, tortas, burritos, quesadillas, dinner plates, and breakfast. The menu also includes a few desserts & you'll find some cellophane-wrapped pan dulces in a basket on the counter.
I had a chili verde burrito for about $4. Generally fine, though I keep having to re-learn that chili verde gets overwhelmed by the other burrito fillings (beans & rice) so I need to stop ordering chili verde as a burrito filling and start ordering chili verde plates instead. Live & learn, huh?
Wife had a 3 enchilada plate (chicken enchiladas & cheese enchiladas, incl. rice & beans) for about $6.50. Cheese filling was better than the chicken filling; both fillings were good but not great. The red sauce on top was the best part of the enchiladas: not just tomato but with other ingredients that gave it a good kick.
The flour tortillas are ones hand made (unfortunately no hand made corn tortillas) and they (the flour tortillas) are yummy. We decided that this would be a good place to satisfy a burrito craving because the flour tortillas, by virtue of being hand made, are really good. I would guess that other flour tortilla foods--like quesadillas & flautas--would be equally good, too.
In the future we'll probably opt for our stand-by places--Don Pepe's, Taco Grande, etc.--but this would be a good place to go if you're in the area (near Fresno City College) and looking for a competent burrito. We're going to go back and try the breakfast (they have plates & burritos, so we'll report on the breakfast burritos).
