Help! Food Shopping in West Chelsea
Just moved to West Chelsea and I love the restaurants -- Tia Pol, Red Cat, Cookshop, Del Posto all within blocks of me. I'm spoiled though by living on the Upper East Side and I miss all the upscale grocery stores, bakeries, etc. I have found some places that I love -- La Bergamote, some of the stores at Chelsea market -- but I am generally still a little disappointed. I have found the produce at Whole Foods and Manhattan Fruit Exchange uneven and am still looking for a good bakery to buy cakes, bagels, etc. So, please let me know if you have any recommendations for stellar shopping in West Chelsea/Chelsea. Also, am still looking for good pizza/Chinese/any other inexpensive delivery if you have suggestions. Thanks in advance.

I have never found the produce uneven at Manhattan Fruit Exchange. Even the chefs at the local restaurants shop there. Knowing that, it's advisable to go earlier than later as all the choice produce is picked off by the late afternoon. Even though I've moved away from Chelsea, I still shop there for the fine selection and prices. For bakeries, Billy's Bakery should be convenient to you. Inexpensive Chinese? Go with Grand Sichuan.
