Has anyone tried Yolato? It's a gelato place located at 168W 27th St. Is it clean? Is it good quality gelato, or does it taste like sorbet or just plain old ice cream?
I was under the impression that Yolato isn't kosher. Has something changed?
a bunch of the locations if not all are kosher
It's not under an Orthodox supervision.
Sure it is. They;re listed as being under the supervision of Rabbi Andre Malek 5724 11th avenueBrooklyn, NY 11219718.314.5815 (accoridng to the website kosher-ny.com).
I said "Orthodox" supervision; afaik, Rabbi Malek is affiliated with the Conservative movement. I would guess the issue with Yolato is gelatin.
No gelatin, according to this link, but the ingredient lists are awfully long for something as simple as gelato.
Well, according to his Teudah, his signature reads in hebrew:
Musmach MeYeshivat Yeshivat Chofetz Chayim M'Radin, MeRav HaGaon Menachem Zaks A"H (Alav Hashalom).
This is an orthodox yeshiva...not conservative
That might be where he studied, but not where is has been a rabbi. There are links on the web; I'll let everyone do their own research for now.
Actually I went looking a few months ago and couldn't find anything on the web to indicate what sort of rabbi he is.
why not call him and ask? That should settle the issue. I am in Israel or I would do it myselfShana Tova
here are some links (lists as conservative and keeps shabbos in his own way): http://www.doublechai.com/profile/and...
Did you really just revive a 6 year old thread to share that information?
yeah, i had no idea about the supervision and saw this so thought i'd provide a lil more background for peeps decisions. do u have other info?
Yes. Ask your rabbi.
