Michael Mina - anybody there recently?

One of my sisters is coming to town and would like to have dinner at Michael Mina. Has anyone been there recently? I was there about a year and a half ago and really enjoyed the food but I want hear experiences from people who have been there recently. The second option is Myth (my choice) which I've never been to. Please compare and contrast if you've been to both recently. Thanks.

  1. I have not been to Mina's property here in San Francisco, but I ate at his Stonehill Tavern in Dana Point last week and was extremely disappointed. I know there are different chefs at both locations, but I found the combination of ingredients weak, the wine pairings mis-matched, and trio concept generally lacking in at least one of the components. I have little reason to visit the San Francisco version based on what I experienced in Dana Point.

    Myth, on the other hand, has continued to impress me -- whether I am catching a quick gnocchi or foie pasta at the bar or a full tasting menu of my own device. I have also greatly enjoyed the suggested pairings provided by Myth's sommelier and would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone.

      I have been to Mina's quite a bit and find it to be consistent. I love the food, presentation and ambiance- and know there are other opinions. I also enjoy Myth very much, but find the two very different. Myth is a much more casual environment.

    2. I was at Michael Minas about a month ago (for the third time) and continue to thoroughly enjoy the place. I think it has some the most innovatively presented food in SF
      I love the way that he will work variations on a theme in his dishes.

      1. Though I haven't been to Michael Mina in over a year (and had a fine experience), I would still say Myth is the better option. It has such a comforting ambiance and great, attentive service. It's one of the few SF restaurants that I consistently choose to revisit. The food never disappoints (start with the raw oysters with yuzu sauce if it's on the menu). I already have reservations booked for next month and I can't wait!
