Italian dinner for tonight downtown? like gemma/generro?

basura Aug 15, 2007 07:32 AM

I'm going to dinner tonight on a double date. I've been wanting to go to Gemma, the new restaurant in the Bowery Hotel but last time I tried to go they said it was a 2 hour wait...

I'm looking for a not loud, sort of romantic atmosphere with amazing Italian food and good wine list, thats affordable...

I love Genero on the upper west side on West 93rd street and Amsterdam avenue, so a restaurant like that...

And one that takes reservations!!!

I've never been to Genero (or Gemma, for that matter), so I can't make comparisons. That said....

I Coppi, on 9th St., b/t Av. A & 1st Av., serves excellent Italian food and has a very lovely back garden -- just perfect, I think, for a romantic double date. They take reservations.

Try Il Giglio, 81 Warren St (b'tn W B'way & Greewich) Might be a bit pricey, but worth it.

BTW ... it's Gennaro. 665 Amsterdam. Gennaro is Sicilian and can be uneven. For similar quality, even, Pugliese, affordable and out of sight, try Osteria Gelsi 507 9th Ave. @ W. 38
