Mangosteen at San Gabriel Super Store

This afternoon they had frozen mangosteen from Thailand at the San Gabriel Super Store (San Gabriel & Valley Blvd.).

$2.99 a bag and looked like about 12-15 of them in a net bag. They were frozen rock hard like they were just put out in the fresh fruit section right next to the dragon eyes. I didn't buy them because I wasn't on my way home right away.

I was having lunch at the Yum Cha Cafe.

I crave fresh mangosteens but sounds like I can make a good smoothie with these frozen ones. Thanks for posting!

frozen mangosteens have been available for a while at various asian supermarkets (Ranch 99, etc). They are really gross when defrosted, not like fresh at all!

I tried them at the 168 and defrosted to an unpleasant consistancy --mush. The taste was somewhat there, but it was disappointing, cuz I LOVE these things. Then my freezer committed suicide, so I didn't get a chance to see if you could possibly pit and juice them, or possibly hack them open and eat the segments frozen like grapes. Hmmm, I might have to get them and try again, thanks for the tip.

Thanks for the tip! My mom loves that store so I'll have her go and check it out.
