Good Drunk Food in the Quarter.

Jodie Aug 13, 2007 09:40 PM

Where's the place for good walk around drunk food in the quarter? Does anyone remember Takee-Outee? Or am I aging myself. Thanks!

Can't answer your question as it's been a few years, but sure do remember the Takee-Outee.

I've never seen such large egg rolls.

Oh, Can you walk around eating a muffaletta? If the answer is yes then my answer is The Central Market on Decatur.

    Have one for me, please.

It's awfully difficult to get a muffeleta at 3am. I think Central Grocery closes at 5 or 6.

My last trip to NO a few weeks ago, we went to Clover Grill late night and had the BEST burger! bacon, cheese and a fried egg. It was LOVE!!!

That's my vote: Clover Grill. Or Port of Call.

It's Verti Mart and yes, their food is wonderfully caloric stuff.

I used to love Verti Mart's lasagne or mac and cheese when I was a grad student at TU. Fried chicken was tasty and greasy, too. Its great drunk food--and some you can walk around with, if you choose carefully. I say ditto to the Clover Grill. Also, La Peniche is fantastic for late night eats or take out--you can get po'boys there, too.

There's always a Lucky Dog. Some have lived to tell about it.

or rather the ingatious special. esp, if you can down a half dozen of those lucky dogs.

but then again afterwards you might not feel so lucky.

yeah, gotta say Clover Grill, mushroom cheeseburger and a vanilla milkshake at about 3:30 in the morning sitting at the counter is the shizzy, but Verti Marte late night is always a good bet, too--Philly Cheesteak with jalapenos, yeah you right!

Very overlooked by most but not by locals in the know is the Quartermaster Deli, further down on Bourbon, but just AWESOME grub. Kitchen is open 24/7.

And there's always a great greaseburger at Checkpoint Charlie's, on Esplanade and Decatur/Frenchmen, also always available 24/7.

The Alibi on Iberville just off of Bourbon has great late-night burgers, and plenty of strippers eating and doing shots next to you as they get off of work as well.

I second the Quartermaster Deli for sure! Great rueben's and burgers and you meet the craziest and nicest people while you're waiting in line to order.
We've been to tha Alibi and number of times also and it too is an experience not to be missed. Does anyone know if Frankie the bartender is back? The last time we were there someone said he had left.

No Question - Verdi Mart (24hrs) Royal St.
              Other ideas:
              Angeli's on Decatur (late night)
              Clover (Bourbon st.- late night)
              Acme (Iberville St.)
Decatur Club (across from HOB) for late night pizza
Copper Monkey (conti right off of Bourbon st. late night)

I had heard that La Peniche is not open late any more, anyone know for sure?

yeah, Decatur Club actually does make a pretty damned good NYC-style thin-crust pizza.

forgot to mention earlier that Clover Grill ALSO does GREAT Pecan Waffles, but I so often order the mushroom cheeseburgers that I might only eat the waffles once or twice a year.

Take-Outee Yuuuck! :) Just a step out of the Quarter, Monaghan 13 on Frenchmen is open until 3:30 a.m. Eggs, sandwiches, vegie options are the rule, very casual, nice relaxing atmosphere.

Agree about Verti Mart and QuarterMaster. Both are great. One note, however, is that Verti Mart has not been open 24 hours since the storm. I think it is now midnight that they close.

Is it Verti or Quartermaster that has the sandwich "All that Jazz"?
I still have dreams about that sandwich!!! Unfortunately, since it is in the category of "Good Drunk Food" I couldn't tell you whats in it... haha...
