Downtown LA Day (or Week?)--suggestions?

George Aug 13, 2007 07:55 PM

Wife has jury duty, downtown. She is...ur...not a seasoned driver. I'm driving. My one consolation is a day of good eats. It could turn into a week of good eats. We will see. I don't have to go to work this week, I can take my time, last year when I had jury duty it was my excuse to go to Philippe's for the first time for the french dip.

Tomorrow I'm thinking Langer's for lunch. But what else should be on my radar, for breakfast and for lunch? Should I just head for East LA and eat tacos all week?

Wood Spoon for Brazilian ... get the pork burger, chicken pot pie and whatever dessert specials are on tap.

Colori for Italian ... good pastas.

For breakfast, I would opt for Pacific Dining Car or L'Angolo Cafe.

      Langer's for pastrami
      Sushi Gen for lunch special
Ciudad for happy hour with your wife after she gets out

Hmm, aren't the courthouses with walking or DASH distance of Grand Central Market?

EDIT - after searching on "downtown eats"
        Some recent posts:

        A handy map:

If you have a car instead of taking public transit, I'd drive to Chichen Itza (within Mercado la Paloma) near USC for great regional Mexican food and free, available parking. Read the last post above by Dommy!
There are other very good Mexican options at MLP - Oaxacalifornia and Taqueria Vista Hermosa. Haven't tried any non-Mexican there yet...
