Krispy Kreme

Did the UES Krispy Kreme (Third Ave and the E. 80's) close or is it still open? I have a craving but don't want to go all the way for nothing!

Yeah, there is one in Penn Station. I hate going to that area though. Went over there today and it was shut down.

I've driven by the UES one and haven't noticed that it is closed, but I'd call first.

the UES is most definitely closed. the location is gutted and the windows are covered in brown paper, with a 'store for rent' sign in the window. it's been that way for about a week now...

Thanks - forgot that it must have been before I went on vacation!

    2. there used to be one in chelsea across from the 23rd st movie theater, not sure if its still open.

yup. 23rd has been gone for several years. i think it's a ben and jerrys now.
i miss krispy kreme as well. there was also one on w72 near brdwy but gone several yrs ago as well. i'm not a doughnut person at all but those warm originals made me crazy. i'm sure many would disagree.

Negative k. It was a Ben & Jerry's. B&J is out of business in the 23rd Street location.

      1. So is there anyplace in New York to get a fresh Krispy Kreme donut anymore? Or are my only options the On-The-Run gas stations and Au Bon Pain? I want the Donut-of-the-month! Does anyplace in New York carry them? I'm pretty sure Au Bon Pain and On-The-Run don't carry them...

Go to Donut Plant on Grand Street....this will "cure " you of Krispy Kreme dough and air posing as donuts.

          1. re: hamstrman

they're not fresh-out-of-the-oven but...duane reade carries krispy kreme (several different varieties)! i happen to frequent the duane reade on broadway/94th street so i know for sure that they have them...i'd imagine other locations do too...

            1. re: bosox

Your response is appreciated. Do they have the "donut of the month" thing that KK does? This month is some Carribbean (mango, pineapple, passion fruit filling) flavored donut with crumb topping.

              1. re: hamstrman

i'm actually not sure about that since i very rarely actually purchase krispy kreme. but i know they have at least 6 or 7 different varieties of the donuts at this particular duane reade...might be worth a check?

        2. I actually noticed this myself a few months ago. I remember around 2003 or so when krispy kreme exploded and you could find them relatively easily. then they just kind of went away. I looked it up and the only one left is in Penn station. I had their doughnuts a couple of times, but never really stopped in there regularly. evidently no one else did either. I guess some things were just meant to stay in the south.

I actually dislike donuts but I LOVED krispy kreme. I'm sure it was pure junk but they were so good, especially those warm originals and the chocolate filled white cream. I had one right down my block that closed over 2 years ago. I tried Donut Planet but nothing compares to Krispy Kreme probably b/c I don't know better.
Buying them at on-the-run or boxed doesn't even compare by a long shot.

            1. re: nativeNYer

i remember when they were on east 8th street near university place, like 5 or 6 yrs ago. and then one day they closed. go figure.

          2. I'm following up on bosox's comment. I walk that stretch of 3rd Ave on the way home from work almost every evening, and haven't noticed that the Krispy Kreme has closed. I'll post an update sometime this week.

As MMRuth says...DEFINITELY closed. It's been replaced by either a shoe store or a yoga studio.
