reasonably priced place - dinner for 12?

any suggestions for a birthday dinner at a reasonably priced place for 12? i live in brookline, but almost any neighborhood would be fine as long as it was delicious!

  1. How much is reasonable? And what kind of food do you like?

i guess maybe $50 or less per person. and we'll eat just about anything, but it should be something kind of fun and festive. i'm dying to try brookline family, but i think i was thinking of something a little bit fancier than that for this occasion.

    2. Brookline Family? Portions are large and if you split stuff family-style prices are very reasonable. The menu on-line is smaller than the real one.

Beacon St Tavern might be perfect for you- right price (entrees ~20 bucks), delicious (very good apps) and I think they are festive. They have a back room they rent to small parties or the patio would be fun. You should stop in for a drink and talk to Jerry.

      2. I've had pretty good luck with larger groups at Antico Forno in the North End.

Pastas and Neapolitan-style pizzas out of a wood-burning brick oven. It's above-average for both quality and value (almost nothing above $20) in the neighborhood, and it's boisterous enough to make for a fun birthday evening.

NB Their dessert menu is very, very limited, but considering the myriad caffes in the neighborhood, a little creativity could easily make this a blessing in disguise.

La Morra in Brookline - 35.00 prix fixe menu, 50 with three glasses of wine, includes 4 courses and is first rate. make reservations and count on an exceptional dinner.

        2. i just had dinner for the first time at the butcher shop in the south end last night. dinner for 5 with wine/beer and tip was less than $40 a person. the space is a little small, but they take reservations for parties of 6 or more, so I'm sure they could arrange something. the butcher shop isn't fancy, but it's definitely more upscale than the brookline family rest. i thought the food was very solid, too. definitely want to go back for more grilled corn and ribs... mmm.

          1. I had my husband's birthday dinner for 13 people at Stella in the South End. The food is good (not fantastic, but solid) but I chose it because I knew it would please a large variety of people, the prices are moderate, I have always had great service & the atmosphere is upscale yet fun. Everyone really enjoyed their meals & had a great time.
