Report: Asian Flavor (Filipino), Red Chili(Thai) & Curry Corner - Hayward
Asian Flavor: the quality has gone up and very noticeable compared to last time. I think it is now belong to the elite. The pork adobo has good flavor. I had 2 other dishes which I never had before. It was small cubes of fried tofu, small slices of fatty pork with a sour dressing. A bit unusual but I like the bright flavors. The second one was very small slices of pork that was probably grilled and a hint of spiciness. All three were outstanding. I also saw nice versions of kare-kare and other dishes that looked good. I made a mistake by ordering the small container which was around $5. It would be better if I ordered 2 entrees with rice because you get 2 dishes with generous portions. The 2nd entree is provided in a separate smaller container. The 2 entree with rice is only $6.99. I should have ordered 2 then I will end up with 4 dishes to try. Anyone tried this place ?
It is hidden, in the corner of Winton and Hesperian next to Joanne and Kasper Hot Dog
Red Chilli: This is a good Thai restaurant. Ordered the appetizer which came with moist satays full of flavor, great fried vietnamese rolls and came with 3 dipping sauces. WOW !
Pad Kee Mao is Thai version of chowfun with basil and thai spices - excellent. Tom Ka soup is decent with lots of spices but somehow a bit bland for my taste. Fried Rice was decent as well. This place offers Vietnamese pho which has good broth - very good. It is located in. Location: 29583 Mission Blvd , Hayward
Curry Corner: has been discussed before but happy to report that the food is as good as reported. I had the combo plate which at the time consist of:
Chicken in a potent curry sauce- great
Egg plant in a greenish sauce
All were obviously cooked with care and the right seasonings and spices. What a find indeed. Both of us were stuffed for only $15. Just stunningly good like eating on the side of the road in a great authentic place.
I tried Red Chili last month and while I can't speak for the rest of the Thai menu, the papaya salad was not very good. It was too sweet and the lettuce served with had either been frozen or had an extended stay in the fridge.
As for the Vietnamese side, I had pho ga, which was an average rendition, but no fried garlic and the cilantro was past its prime. My SO ordered grilled pork bun and specifically asked for the pork to be lightly charred. However the thin slices of pork arrived extremely charred, not to mention lukewarm. Maybe we got leftovers?
