Tarpon Springs update and suggestion

Well if you cannot cook your own greek stye food, then bypass ALL the "greek restaurants" around the area, buy a bottle of Retsina from a big wine shop for 6-8 dollars (instead of giving the local dive 4-6 doolars for 3 oz. of the stuff) and then just walk to the far side of the dock to a lonely GIRO STAND AND ENJOY THE BEST GYRO in the whole area.....much more tasty than the greasy tasteless stuff they offer at the greek restaurants, sit by the water and enjoy a good taste and a good wine and the sunset.

  1. Did you try the gyros at Mykonos? They are very, very good.

    1. I 'think' I know the place you're talking about, and it's always good to get a good tip--- but I've never had a greasy tasteless Gyro in my life...
      They've either been good or great...
      And there ain't no way I'm bypassing Costa's and Mykonos for nuttin'!
      Tarpon is packed with great food... Costa's isn't a "greek restaurant"--- it's a Greek restaurant...

        Now i am craving some Costa's grilled Octopus. YUM!

          Yeah, can you believe how tasty, tender, and grill-carmelized that Octopus is?
          I also get the calamari 'grilled not breaded' and it's a total scene man...
          I get it that way because I usually order the seafood combo, which includes fried smelt which is breaded and crispy...
          The grilled squid gets kinda bacony...

            I swear the octopus tastes better than lobster. I highly recommend not cooking it at home though lol. One time my husband and I got motivated when we were out there and bought a raw frozen octopus at the market across from Costa's. Well you have to parboil it, marinate it, grill it, and then saute it. Talk about a lot of work! Plus we were both so skeeved out from handling it raw that we didn't want to eat it lol. This from 2 sashimi lovers. Trust me it's not fun. my Mom was in town from N Florida and she laughed and laughed at us.

            That dish is to die for. Worth the trip! My favorite thing on their menu. I did thing the place was better before it expanded, but it's still great eats.
