Hi Everyone,
Any butcher shop with great fresh sausages? I'd prefer somwhere near Los Feliz but I'm willing to travel. Thanks in advance for your help.

The butcher at the Farmer's Market (3rd and Fairfax) has some great sausages. Can't think of anything right in Los Feliz/Silverlake.

Huntington Meats, it is on the far east side, next to Monsur Marcel.

Marconda, at the south end, has a good if smaller selection as well, and I think their prices are usually a bit better.

Schreiner's, mentioned below, is a good source of both sausages and smoked meats - their smoked pork loin is delicious, and costs about the same as raw pork loin elsewhere - but they too are closed on Sundays.

I've gotten hooted at on this forum for saying so, but I like Bristol Farms' in-house made sausages, especially the kielbasa.

The European Sausage Company, in a little industrial park on the south side of Saticoy just west of Coldwater, is a treasure trove of local, artisan produced sausages. I'm not sure of the actual ethnic origin of the staff, there seem to be both Poles and Ukrainians there, but they have marvelous kielbasa, great hot dogs, 4 types of bacon, and a myriad of mysterious eastern European sausages, hams, pickles, cheese, bread, and incredible desserts.
Going there is a strange experience. You drive into this ugly little industrial park, wend your way past cabinet shops and motorcycles until you get to their door. As you open it there is a blast of air, and then the smell hits you. My teenage daughter, the vegetarian, likes to go with me just to smell the place.
It's worth the drive from Los Feliz. Don't go on Sunday as they are closed. For a true fusion experience you can pick up sausages from there, and then hit Thai Alley on Sherman Way for lunch.

I've been here (although not in awhile so I'm gonna have to return this week) and ebethsdad is right. The place IS a treasure trove. Love their charcuterie and that incredible smell when you walk in! Absolutely check it out.

Bob's Market in Santa Monica is known for their house-made sausages. Worth the trip from Los Feliz? Perhaps not, but if you're in the area...

The best fresh sausages I've tasted in the US are made by Fra Mani in Oakland. The only place I've seen them in LA is at The Wine House where they are sold frozen, three to a pack.

Whole Foods carries a pretty extensive selection and I'm reasonably certain so would Bristol Farms.

Schreiner's Fine Meats and Sausages -- it's a wurstophile's dream come true, and right next door is a Swedish bakery named Berolina with outstanding breads and pastries. Have a lunch of enchiladas con mole, chiles en nogada or quezadilla con rajas at La Cabanita around the corner, and you'll have a Chow day to remember.

For Orange County wurstophiles, Schreiner's have a selection of meats and sausages available at the Irvine farmers' market on Saturday mornings, Bridge and Campus Sts. behind the In-N-Out.

Give Jons Marketplace a try. I don't remember much about their selection of uncooked sausages, but they have a great selection of eastern European types. Eureka is a locally made brand that I really like.

Not too far from Farmer's Market are the European Deluxe and Jeffs Gourmet Sausage.

Trouble with Jeff's Kosher Sausages is they are kind of dense and dry, I thought. Pork fat makes sausages better, perhaps inescapably.
