Well, I loved this one. Because of the people and Alton's interaction with them. The spaghetti lady, the old man with the best fried chicken ever, Clara the cook at Jim's diner, the guy making the fillet, all of them, genuine, funny, matter of fact people. Refreshing, honest and unpretentious. Kind of gives a stark contrast to the usual glitzed up "celebrity" chefs on the Food Network. The food looked great too, honest, genuine, fattening, and home made.

The lesson on cola carbination was interesting as hell and the fillet making lesson was great too. This show has hit its stride IMHO. I was even temped by the rib tips and pancake combo.

I watched the episode today too, and I have to agree 100% with your assessment. Great episode. Where is this fried chicken place?! I missed the name and location, but his description of the chicken really had me salivating...

The Old Country Store in Lorman, MS. I wanted to know how they can possibly offer AUCE for $5.95.

This is a great series! They look like they are having so much fun. First thing on FN that has ever made me laugh like this.

love Alton's smirk. Clara said that she was a cook and so was everyone around her. She said that they had someone work there once who thought he was a chef (smirk from Alton), but he just washed celery and didn't actually know anything.

Alton was smirking at folks who consider themselves chefs, when the 'cooks' of the world are so much more talented.

The best line is when Alton asked her if what she was making was any good and she said "it is if I make it". I love old, black, sassy, southen ladies. What chutzpah!

And I loved the Orson Welles quote, "Ask not what you can do for your country. Ask what's for lunch."

A lot of the quotes are great and this is the only series that has me slowing down, nay pausing to read the quotes before I hit fast-forward through the commercials.

I like season 2 much better than season one. I think this is more about the places and the food as oppose to the first one which was more about the trip. I get more a sense of the place (except the mulate scene which is another issue).

On the Foodnetwork, other than alton, I don't see much drawing me to them. To me he is the long pole in the foodnetwork tent right now. I do like the diner, drivein dive show.

I love that this show's success rests entirely on the interplay between Alton and his guests. He has the genueine nature of Paula Deen and the eloquence and social awareness to be both endearing and informative. This show would bomb with any other host.
