Faye Elberta peaches @ Friday Sonoma farmers market
At yesterday morning's farmers market in Sonoma, the sign offering Faye Elberta peaches pulled me in like a beacon. Quite a simple no-name stall with just two boxes of peaches and one of nectarines for sale ($2 per pound). The gentleman farmer was also quite closed mouth. I did get out of him that the farm is in Gridley and he only sells at this Friday market. I think he said his business is Bolla (sp?) farm.

Two of the Faye Elbertas set me back $1.50. Trying it last night, this peach was a bit less firm than the one last week from Andy's. The color had more blush and less gold tone with no green. Very fuzzy, the skin slipped off easily, and the knife cut through it like butter. Unlike Andy's this didn't drip juice, but exploded with juice when you bite into it, like releasing a sponge. More upfront sweetness and riper flavor, the overall impression is still refined and elegant. The finish was not quite as long as the Andy's fruit, but still very satisfying.
