Hebrew National Collagen Hot Dogs - Where to Buy?
I live on the upper west side and am looking for some place to buy Hebrew National Collagen Casing Hot Dogs aka Hebrew National Specials.
I used to buy them at Oppenheimer Prime Meets on Broadway and 98th - but the last batch I bought there were clearly the regular casing variety.
Thanks to anyone who can help.
The collagen casing hot dogs are not the same thing as the specials. The specials are thicker and actually knockwurst. They are spicier than the regular franks. I'll try and find out where you can get the regular franks with collagen casing. Sheep or hog casings are not kosher which is why collagen casings are used. Most kosher dogs are skinless. I would suggest that you try any Jewish deli and ask. I live in N.J. and can get the collagen casing dogs at Maple Kosher Meats in Union and Goldberg's Kosher Meats in Old Bridge. Wegman's in Woodbridge also carries them, but they are often dried out.
Thank you for getting back to me - I appreciate any and all help - and am grateful for the clarification.
I actually went to a kosher butcher up here - Super Sol and asked if they carried them. A woman on line turned to be and said "Those aren't kosher" - to which another woman retorted "Yes they are" - an almost amusing argument broke out. I am now officially afraid to walk into a kosher butcher.
