Cocktail Square Off-Anyone else annoyed?

Considering that the essence of vodka is neutral and falvorless, does chowhound need to alienate half the country by using a brand that is not available and therefore, disallowing many of us from entering the contest?

The sad reality is that contests involving spirits is so highly regulated that these sorts of restrictions are unavoidable. It's unfortunate for everyone involved.

Did you know there are lawyers who just specialize in consulting the alcoholic beverage industry? Neither did I. But it's these kinds of convoluted state-by-state rules that keep them in business.

Despite the overbearing legal restrictions of the Square Off, we thought it was worthwhile to hold this contest as it's bringing to the table the marriage of organic methods and philosophies in the food arena and the classic cocktail world. This is the direction we think cocktails are heading.

Thankfully, CHOW will be hosting a variety of different contests in the future around contributed recipes. Keep your eyes peeled in the coming months.

I'm in the media business and my husbands in the alcohol business. Please don't insult our intelligence by offering this absurd explanation. Please be truthful and say that the client required use of their product in the recipes - a not odd or unusual request.
