Family Friendly in Truckee

Well we were up in Tahoe Donner for a week and went out three nights. Our first stop was Smokey's just off the Lake Donner exit. This was a great spot. Good ribs, brisket, and sides - all in a friendly atmosphere. You walk up to the counter and order and then wait for the staff to bring you your food and drinks. The guy at the cash register realized that he over charged us and corrected the bill. We had a rib dinner with three sides, a salad and 3 generous slices of sweet corn bread. We also ordered a side of shredded pork in BBQ sauce. We had two adults and three kids. We left happy and had enough left over for lunch the next day.

Our next trip was in Truckee where we ended up at Pacific Crest. I shouldn't complain much because the adults enjoyed martinis, oysters, and a decent Caesar salad. The kids gobbled up pasta but neither liked the meatballs. The adults aslo shared a pizza with spinach, sausage, and feta. It was OK but not great for Bay Area standards.

For our last restaurant, we asked some locals about a good Mexican place and I'm glad that we did. We ended up in Mexican place by the Longs and Alberstons on 89. Perfect choice for our last night in Tahoe Donner after a long week of playing. Great margs for the adults and the kids. Also really good fish tacos and enchiladas. Kids were really happy ordering off the kids menu. Great service too.

We longingly looked at the Cottonwood which we visited a long time ago sans kids, but we had a very nice time. Actually tried to get in last night to the upscale sister restaurant to Pacific Crest but it was booked so they steered us to Pacific Crest which was better for kids.
