Is there a reason Pici Pasta is so hard to find in the US?

Love, love, loved it in Tuscany.....now I'm finding it difficult to find here.

Either to purchase for preparing at home or on a menu somewhere in SF?

If someone is still looking, you can also find at Laguna Gourmet in Laguna Beach. 949-376-1615 They have a wonderful Italian brand that sells for 9.50 500gr. I've tried it with their wonderful game sauces from Conti in Florence. I've had them ship to relatives back east, so I know you can get it.

You can buy pici in SF at the Ferry Plaza; there's a market that sells all kinds of imported pasta. There's another small Italian import store that carries other Tuscan treats (panforte, sweets - nice proprietor). Piatti in Danville makes pici in garlic sauce (not ragu) and it'll satisfy your taste for a bit of Tuscany!

          Thanks....I've ordered it's on it's way.

I'm still curious as to why it is so hard to come by outside of that immediate region. I've gone to every Italian specialty shop and they seem to have every other pasta but.....

I believe it's generally a freshly made pasta, as opposed to one you'd buy dry. I had a pici dish sometimes at a neighborhood place in Manhattan when I lived there until two years ago, and their pici was house-made.

I saw dried, packaged Pici in just about every grocery store in Tuscany, and brought some home with me.

I brought some home with me from Tuscany about a year ago and I'm still waiting for the perfect opportunity to use it. Actually, you CAN buy it here: http://www.amazon.com/Pici-Pasta-500-...

I ate some last weekend at my parents' with a duck ragu. They were delicious and not a pici was left over!
