San Francisco Bay Area

Tips for Dining, Eating, and Food Shopping in the SF Bay Area (including Berkeley, Oakland, Napa, Sonoma, Marin, and San Jose)

SF - Any favorites at I Preferiti di Boriana besides the bombolini?

The bombolini are the first thing I'm heading for on my next Ferry Plaza visit.

The product list looks quite interesting.

They have durham wheat, whole wheat, spelt wheat and chestnut wheat pasta. Anyone tried the chestnut or pici?

How are the sauces? I'm thinking maybe the sugo Toscano since they are a market that specializes in products from Tuscany. What would be a good wine from the market?

How about the honey ... sunflower honey ... that sounds ... well, sunny and appealing to me.

Baked goods? Any favorites (or to avoids) of the panforte, cantucci, cakes or cookies? How's the wood-fire roasted Italian coffee? Did anyone try their holiday items like the panetone, pandoro, colombo or coloumbine?

Any chestnut favorites? Right now the chestnut cream preserve with cacoa and rum or the chestnuts in vin santo and honey seem the most appealing. How would those be used?

They really seem to have a good selection of pecorino cheese. Are the soups, creams, pates and veggies like giadineria canned or made in-house and in a cooler?

I'm not that familiar with Tuscan products. Are a lot of these same items available at other Bay Area markets or has Boriana's carved out a unique little niche?
