Where to load up on carbs?

jn2001 Aug 9, 2007 05:55 AM

The BF is running the Chicago Distance Classic on Sunday morning and is requesting a carb-heavy dinner on Saturday. Any suggestions for where to get non-skimpy portions of good carb-heavy food? Non-chain and casual/affordable preferred, proximity to Old Town nice, but not required. Thanks!

Topo Gigio. Casual Italian right on Wells in the heart of Old Town:
Not my favorite, but it's good, festive, affordable, and it's right there.

Its also my favorite Italian restaurant in that area. Better than Dinotto, Roma, Orsos IMO.

Can't go wrong with Topo Gigio. We ate there the first night we moved to Chicago 10 years ago, and my daughter has grown up eating their food. It is consistently excellent and a good value for the money. Eating in their courtyard in summer is one of my favorite Chicago experiences.
