  1. Ikea's Almondy cakes in the Marketplace are Gluten Free - and only $5.99. They come in three flavors. We tried the Daim - which is sort of a chocolate and toffee mix -loved and are heading back for more.

Pamela's mix brownies are delicious! and the best locally available bread we have found to date is "Against the Grain" rolls and baguettes that you can get at Whole Foods. They have a little bit of mozarella in them which really helps the texture.

    1. Check out a place called Breadsong Bakery in Newton: http://www.breadsongbakery.com/Script...

They don't list GF products on the website but I know they occasionally make breads and tea cakes. I was also able to request a GF cake one year for my dad's birthday that was much tastier and moister than most stuff available in a supermarket or health food store.

      1. Lulu's in the North End bakes a good flourless chocolate cookie. It was actually better than most of the stuff with flour I had there, and better than anything gluten-free I've had from Whole Foods.

The one thing I did get hooked on at Whole Foods for a while when I was doing a gluten-free "test" to see if I was allergic to it, were the brownies that come in black pans. I think the brand was "Foods By George." They were moist, and when topped with ice cream, really good. They also make a pretty good coffee cake. I'm sorry for your loss. At least you can make up for it with extra dairy and sugar! (I hope.)

Not to burst any bubbles, but the flourless items at Lulu's aren't GF - they don't have a separate prep area for these items, so they've been contaminated with flour. Which is too bad since I agree that it is a very good cake in it's own right.

That's actually something to watch out for in general, places selling flourless items that don't prepare them in a flourless facility. Make sure you ask the owner about the prep!

Does Breadsong Bakery have a seperate prep area?

I haven't been there in over a year, but at the time they were sterilizing part of their kitchen and using it for GF baking. The owner was very accomodating of special requests and I would hope that hasn't changed.

Its not a loss at all. Gluten free eating is easier than ever these days. If you are gluten free, I would suggest going to the http://www.healthyvilli.com/.

It is one of the largest support groups in the country and they are a wealth of information. Plus a their meetins they serve GF food, and have a vendor table with bakeries and products. There is tons available these days.

          3. The Oxford Spa on Oxford Street in Cambridge has a good range of gluten free baked goods, including muffins, brownies and cookies. (I'm not allergic to gluten, but enjoyed a chewy and spicy ginger cookie recently.)
