Meeting my sis right off Hospital Road in East Patchogue. Would like to take her to lunch. She is new to the neighborhood and I'm a "ciddy" girl. What's good in the world of seafood? any food? anything near the shore? We're totally flexible but LOVE calemari done right. Thanks to all.
My parents live in East Patchogue. The best place they have taken me for seafood is The Oar which is in Patchogue proper, located on the Patchogue River. www.theoar.com
I have never been there for lunch only dinner, but basically liked everything I had although I have not been there for a couple of years.
There is also the Bellport Chowder House in Bellport.
If you continue south on Hospital Rd to Montauk Hwy and then go west a little bit there is Sicilia D'Oro in the large shopping center on the right; they have calamari.
A little further west near the Patchogue Performing Arts Center is an Italian restaurant run by the Del Fiore pizza people, good food, more upscale and expensive than Sicilia D'Oro. There are also several Colombian places in town, one on East Main east of 112 on the the South side and Gallo Tropical on the north side near Ocean Avenue. Both have good chicken and low prices, nice friendly atmosphere.
I think for best Italian in area, calamari and everything else, etc, try Mama Lombardi's in Holbrook, only a short ride up Holbrook Rd (Waverly Ave) to Furrows Rd. You can eat in the Pizza part or main restaurant; in the pizzeria you order at the counter, menu is the same.
The Medford Pita House on Rt 112 north of Sunrise Hwy also has good seafood (the owner is supposedly from coastal Turkey) along with generally good Turkish food, gyros, lentil soup, etc.
Patchogue also has several decent pub type places, burgers etc.; Howards in same center as Sicilia D'Oro, Two Morrows on East Main and Reese's on Ocean Avenue just north of Main St.
Someone recomended the Oar above. And it is an excellent place I have nothing to add the the comments about it.
For a more casual meal, I prefer "On the Waterfront". Follow the signs to the Davis Park Ferry and you are there. The last time I was there I had a stuffed flounder that was excellent. We also ordered the appetizer special blackened scallops. Quite a large serving, and we shared it between 3 of us. The seafood chowder is a must have.
Avoid Louis XVI unless someone else is paying, but if someone else is paying, enjoy.
Check out Pera Bell Food Bar on W. Main St. in Patchogue. I've been in there 5 or 6 times and the food is always good. Nice specials. Real nice burgers if you want something easy. Fine mojitos too. They do a pork chop that is really good. If the short ribs are on the specials board grab 'em. The place is small wtih a bar up front and small dining area in the back. Not fancy and the prices are fair for sure.
