Looking for restaurants in Bergen County

  • e
  • 5

Hi all, I will be visiting Bergen County (around Englewood, Teaneck, Leonia, Tenafly) from Toronto, Canada and am looking for some interesting restaurants in the area. Anything meat/fish/italian/dairy will do. We don't eat seafood besides fish.

We lived in the area 18 years ago so it's been a while. I'll be glad for any suggestions. Thanks!

  1. Christians Steak House & Grill - Outwater Lane , Garfield NJ

Its a small place, almost cafeteria like set up. Not a romantic place at all, but if u want a solid meal (steak/burger/chicken) at around 6 or 7pm before you go to a place for drinks! This is it!!!!

Cosmo is the guy who runs it, I don't know what the hell he puts in or on his steaks, but by far and i mean BY FAR the best Rib Eye or any steak I have ever had!!!! Very reasonable prices. You can bring your own beer/wine as well!!!!!!!

Steak, cheeseburgers and barbaque chicken are simply ridiculous!
    Good luck!

Right in Tenafly is a wonderful necomer, Axia. Greek owners, but quite authentic, and unlike other "middle eastern" ubiquitous types. (No pita served here!) Physically beautiful, and specializing in fresh, whole fish depending on what's at market. Highly recommended, one of the best in Bergen.

For great fish, my only recommendation is Legal Sea Foods in the Garden State Plaza
in Paramus, NJ (201) 843-8483. I know it's part of a chain, but they do have fresh fish. I was there 3 days ago, and I've been going there for years. To really, truly, world class excellent seafood and fish, cross the GW Bridge, and go to Le Bernardin (reservations are a MUST) in NYC.

      2. Luka's in Ridgefield Park, NJ (next to Teaneck) 238 Main St, Ridgefield Park, NJ 07660 (201) 440-2996 is a hidden gem. Its simple, BYOB demeanor belies the food that chef Luka puts out. When he does the French lamb chops, Osso Vuco, or (once in a while) Lobster bisque, you'd think that you're in a NYC bistro.

If you eat Kosher style, there are a tons of restaurants along Cedar Lane in Teaneck that fits your needs. There is also a great Chinese restaurant in Englewood called Baumgrart's which is wonderful,. They have everything on their menu, as well as terrific desserts. Englewood also has a Greek restaurant called A Touch of Greece which is consistently good. It's not fancy by any means, but it's prices are decent.
