Mai Kai - Fort Lauderdale

USA Today listed Mai Kai in Fort Lauderdale as one of the top ten Tiki bars in the US. I will be in Fort Lauderdale for the weekend and was thinking about checking it out. Has anyone been? How's the food? Atmosphere? Tacky or worthwhile?
I am interested to see what kind of replys you get on this. My info on this is that its worth a visit at happy hour. Skip dinner. location wise its on a highway. For a real tiki bar experience try the bar on the beach at the Ocean Manor hotel. Its on A1A north of 40th street. Bar food menu, bar b que on the weekends. You are right on the beach so the view is stunning. Same view as Aruba on Commercial, half the price.
mai kai is completely worth it. especially during happy hour! 2 for one drinks at the bar (the bar was taken from pieces of the set of "mutiny on the bounty"). the servers, captains, etc. are all in costume and not in that cheesy "i work at a theme park" kind of way. they put on the polynesian dance shows near happy hour. oh and they are a big part of the luau event called huli lau each year. do not pass this up.
The Mai Kai is a must see when in Florida. Prices are high, food is average, but the show is top notch. If you haven't been, you must see at least once. The bar area is very relaxing also.
Mai-Kai Restaurant & Polynesian Show
3599 N. Federal Highway, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33308
It is worth a trip. The dinners are a waste of money, but the drinks and appetizers are wonderful. The show is okay if you've never seen a Polynesian show. But the specialty drinks are yummy. And the apps are great, such as the crispy chicken, the steak skewers, the fried shrimp and the crab wontons. You'll like it!
