Best beef stroganoff in Toronto?

Where is the best place for a good beef stroganoff in Toronto? I did a search on the board, but the results did not return any entries. Thanks in advance for your recommendations!

The Blackhorn Dining Room at Ellesmere and Warden in Scarborough offer a very tasty and traditional beef strogonoff - served over noodles or rice. Although I make and prefer my own, the Blackhorn's offering is very good.

My daughter wanted to try beef stroganoff, so I ordered it at Bistro Camino on the weekend. Although not served with noodles (great mashed potatoes instead), the meat was melt in your mouth tender, and the sauce was rich and delicious. They served sour cream on the side so you could add in as much or as little as you liked. Although my stroganoff is...ahem...phenomenal...Bistro Camino's was one I could recommend.

You know this is going to sound highly improbable but the 'Treats' just outside of Scarborough Town Centre makes (or made) a lunch special every day and used to do beef stroganoff sometimes. I did like that stroganoff! I am not sure if they still do this or who is cooking now but in the absence of too many other options this may be something-- call first though.

The only benchmarks I have are the Soup Nutsy version (not a fan) and the stuff my mom used to make.

There is a Treats in Bell Trinity Square (483 Bay Street) that does similar homey lunch specials... things like meatloaf and mashed potatoes. I don't know if they do Stroganoff specifically. Not my thing at all with so many other options nearby so I never tried any of their lunch food, but something a little different than the foodcourt fare in the Eaton Centre.

Not sure where you work but it looks like Maxim (2nd floor, First Canadian Place) do Beef Stroganoff on Tuesdays. Again I'm not much of a comfort food person at lunch but lots of chowhounds like this place for simple food done well, at least by PATH standards. I might have to try it some day though...

The only beef stroganoff that I have ever tried is from the Soup Nutsy in the TD Centre Downtown. I loved it but, I have no benchmark to set it against.

More of a soup but it is delicious. 'Sherried Beef Stroganoff'. I miss eating downtown. :-(

I'd suggest Pravda Vodka Bar (44 Wellington E). While I haven't tried their stroganoff, the ambiance is great, food is typically good...and hey, stroganoff is Russian, not Hungarian!

I believe that Corvina (Kingston Rd & Victoria Park vicinity) has beef stroganoff. I know they have stick to your ribs home cooked Hungarian food in that yummy sour cream sauce.

I can't suggest a restaurant that serves it since I haven't seen the real thing (a saute of rare filet mignon or a similar tender cut) in years. DO NOT try the PC prepared version from Loblaws.

For quite a long time I've had a craving for a well prepared beef stroganoff, but I could never find a place that offered it. So one day it hit me that I could ask fellow chowhounds where to find a good beef stroganoff in Toronto. It seems like the lack of recommendations confirms my earlier suspicions that beef stroganoff is nowhere to be found in Toronto's gastronomical map. It seems like I'll have to continue my search somewhere else, when I go away on vacation. I would never have guessed. :)

tjunmin, I feel your pain. I think this fits into the category of a dish that's past its prime. Like Aspic. Personally, I've never seen it (but I don't get out as much as some).
