Can anybody give me feed back about this place?

    1. I live in New Roc...where is this place? What kind of food? were you thinking of trying it?

They are a red sauce Italian, located just before the Larchmont diner on the Post Road. They are family style and have recently returned to either the same owners or the same chef, not sure which, but they are back to the quality they had a long time ago.

I like them, and they are good for what they are.

              1. Place is a blast. Accordion player on the weekends, checkerboard vinyl table cloths, cheap house wine and oversized portions. I sit at the bar and eat mussels all the time. If you ever get around to reading my post:

you'll see that Augies breaks all the rules. Definitely worth a try. Food is OK (after a few vinos) but it’s the atmosphere that I love.

Since you like the mussels there, I'll have to make a point of trying their mussels.

I agree, the place is very good for what it is.

Well, they're bigger than "you know where". I just love the sauce, dipping the bread & the whole Italian thing. It's rustic food. When I go I don't ever expect much.

I could write a 10 page post just on "expectations" and how it can completely destroy an evening.

Sometimes I’ll take a friend to Augies and tell them straight out “we’re not going for the food or service, it’s just a really cool place”. With that being said, we always have a great time.

I understand, for the most part. However, I think you're bringing a different perspective than that of many diners, me especially.

I find nothing wrong with the service at Augie's (if you want bad service, see my posts on 'you know where') and the food, as I said, is no better and no worse than most red sauce Italians in Westchester. I have yet to find a 'great! I'm going there every week, this is MY PLACE!' red sauce Italian in Westchester. And I have been to a LOT of red sauce Italian places in Westchester.

I'd like to see your expose on 'expectations' and I am pretty sure it would be different from 'my' expectations.

I agree with you Dolores. We tried Augie's for the first time Friday night and it was quite good. Crowded, somewhat loud with one very large party (20 or more) sitting right near us but that is how, the waiter told us, the place usually is - casual and great for groups and families w/kids.

And considering that I have to say the service was quite attentive and everyone was incredibly friendly and accommodating. They even noticed my diet coke needed refilling and did it. How many times am I sitting in a restaurant waiting forever for a server to notice this which they almost never do when the refills are no charge.

Hard place to go (as is any family style) witha small family - two adults, our daughter and her friend as it's tough to accommodate seven year old palates (at least ours) and ourselves without spending $100 which is what we ended up doing for one appetizer, spaghetti and meatballs for them and one "kitchen sink" pasta for us. However, food was much better than I expected and we had a ton of leftovers. Next time we'll go back with more people.

                                    Glad you liked it, laylag.

We just went to Frank's -- see my comments -- for lack of thinking where to go.

I forgot to put Augie's on my 'these are places that don't make me mad' list.

I will and have to check out Augie's again soon.

Glad they're back to where they once were.

                                      1. re: dolores

Franks in Rye Brook? Please do tell? Please tell me you tried the sushi?

                                          1. re: billyparsons

No, Frank's in Portchester. Mr. dolores doesn't like sushi and per the reviews here I wouldn't try their steaks.

It's on my list of sushi places to try when I'm out alone. Especially after I don't throw away the next coupon in the circular that comes in my mail! It's where Eclisse was, right?

                                              1. re: dolores

Just wanted to bump this up. Went back to Augie's this past weekend for their Sunday night pasta special. They asked if we had a reservation and we did not, but they still seated us right away. They were crowded and the service was slow, and at one point, one of the managers saw we had still not received our food (after like 45 minutes to an hour) and came over and offered us free drinks. I thought that was great. The best part was, they did not charge for the kids. We had salad, garlic bread and a huge bowl of pasta with meatballs & sausage, easily enough for 4, one tartufo and the bill was about $31. The place is not going to win any awards for decor, but we thought we received a good deal.

                                                  1. re: Dim Sum Diva

Good to hear, Dim Sum Diva.

I always liked Augies, hated it when the original owner sold, and then liked it again when the original owner and staff came back.
