Pre theater lunch for wednesday matinee

Grandmother and mother coming into the city for a show need a decent place to dine, looking for some place that does basic food well

Bar Americain is perfect for pre theatre.

3 come to mind right away.
Marseille, Le Madeliene, and Etcetera, Etcetera

            Ditto on Marseille (french/mediterranean, 44th & 9th) and Le Madeleine (French, 43rd & 9th). I'd add Roberto Passon (Italian, 50th & 9th) and West Bank Cafe (contemporary american/continental, 42nd & 9th).

Haven't eaten at Etcetera, etc. - any specific recommendations?

My mother and I had a pre-theater lunch at Le Madeliene a few weeks ago. The back garden was lovely and the food was pretty good. She can be hard to please but had a great omlet and while my soft-shell crab special tasted a but off (something with the breading, not the crab) I enjoyed the tomato salad.
