Solo Feedback
After having put off a visit to Solo since it opened quite a while back, my husband and I finally decided to go there yesterday. The anticipated expense, the fact that we didn't particularly enjoy our first and last visit to Prime Grill (its sister restaurant) several years back, and the slightly intimidating exotic looking Solo menu, which we had checked out online, kept us away this long.
Finally, due to some nice comments on Chowhound, we decided to try it for a romantic birthday celebration.
The modern decor is unique, and attractive. The service was excellent. The menu was a bit different than the one which we had seen online. Our waiter was helpful, but not overbearing. He welcomed us, and without us asking, offered to explain anything on the menu that needed clarification.
The food was really good, and the portions were generous. We began with the Barbeque Short Rib Spring Rolls with Chili Plum Sauce, which was delicious, and the Mushroom Soup, which was also very tasty.
For the mains, my husband chose the Dry-Aged Cowboy Steak, which was out of this world - tender, and flavorful, and I had the Roasted French Hen, which was tasty though I probably could have made a better choice. My dish came with fingerling potatoes, artichokes, with mini mushrooms (I'm not sure of the variety), and little bits of "beef fry". This accompaniment was very tasty.
For dessert, we had the Jack Daniel's Chocolate Mousse, and the Hazelnut Bar, which was a fudge bar generously covered with a chocolate hazelnut cream, and came with a scoop of espresso (pareve) ice cream. Very Rich, but yummy.
All in all, though it is pricey, I look forward to return to Solo soon, for other special occasions. I would highly recommend it for those looking for a special dinner out.
