Ingredients board
Is there some link to the ingredients section of the site that I just don't see? I've been visiting and posting to chowhound for a long time and only discovered it by accident. From what I can tell it's only accessible from the search page. Especially the flavor affinities section of each entry would probably be interesting for users posting on the Home Cooking board. Is there some way to add a link or make it more visible?
It's mainly used to link ingredients in the various CHOW recipes, but you can search it, as you noticed. To link to an Ingredients page from the Home Cooking board, you'd just need to copy and paste the URL as with any other link: http://www.chow.com/ingredients/317

How do you get to the ingredients section directly? I've looked at Chow home and not found it.

You can't -- it's really background reference information, so the only way to find an ingredient page is via the search function.

Is there a way to see the entire index of available ingredients?

You can do a search on 'Ingredient' and limit it to the 'Ingredients' section:

The list you end up with is kind of in random order. I'm not sure if it's all of them, but it it seems to be, because adding other very common words (like the) to the mix doesn't get me any more results.

Okay, since there isn't an easy way to see what ingredients are listed. Can I request a link or something to get to an index of the Ingredients boards?
Shouldn't be hard. Could even be a dynamic search that just lists all the ingredients in order. Just a suggestion!

I think they'll probably consider it at some point, eatfood. I don't think anyone realized prior to this point that there was a lot of interest in the Ingredients list.

That would be nice - I had no idea that this resource existed until I saw this thread, and occasionally go to other websites to learn about ingredients with which I am unfamiliar.

Thanks, good to know. I had a great time just browsing the random tidbits of information in that section earlier.
With easier access and better organization, it really could be made into something great!

No.

Louise, for now if you search on google for
site:chow.com/ingredients/
you'll turn up 660 pages, not in any order. Using the search engine link provided above returns 616 results.

Melanie, thank you.

This is great feedback, all -- thanks. We'll put some thought into how we can better surface the ingredients database. It's great to see you all digging around and finding helpful content, even if we're (unintentionally) hiding it!

So ... its been a few years, any hope of there ever being an easy way to get to this very useful part of the site?
The tip Melanie gave for google no longer works
Pasting this in the url no longer works
http://www.chow.com/ingredients/
Can't get to it through tags, recipes, stories, etc
Someone gave me some sort of bookmark that I lost when my computer died. I'm hoping that poster surfaces.
Anyway, I finally got my ingredient by doing a chow search for it and adding the word "affinities"
Still, it would be nice to have an easier way to get there. I know I'm going to forget this, which is partily why I added the info to Site Talk ... for my future reference. It would be nice though if it was in an easier to find place. Now you have to know the ingredient. I liked to read through it every now and then.

Still no easy way to get there, AFAIK, but the URL you want to bookmark is: http://www.chow.com/sitemap/ingredien...
I just wish the list were in alphabetical order. As it's not, the easiest way to find something on it is to do a Ctrl-F search.

To my rescue again. Thanks, Caitln.
Sometimes I forget what is out there and something like 'myrtle' will catch my eye. Food Affinities: Bacon, brandy, chestnut, chicken, duck, guinea hen, lemon, olive oil, pancetta, turkey, venison.
You don't see myrtle much on menus.
