girls night out in san mateo/burlingame area

i am from out of town and am getting together with a bunch of girlfriends who live in sj and sf (none in between) for dinner. any suggestions for a good sit down restaurant (japanese a plus) and/or classy lounge in the mid point between sf and sj? i read great reviews about nectar wine lounge in san mateo. anyone been?

the area should be somewhat safe since we're coming from separate directions alone. all i know is that palo alto, san mateo, and burlingame are the nicer cities around the area.

thanks a lot in advance!

We have been to Nectar once (it is in Burlingame off of Burlingame Avenue) and it was good, classy, but expensive. But I think it's a good place for a girls night out. We also like Kingfish on 2nd Avenue in downtown San Mateo. Two very nice bar areas, plus sit-down for dinner in a beautiful historic building. There's a newish wine bar called B Street and Vine in downtown San Mateo, but it's pretty casual. I can't think of any sit-down Japanese restaurant that has this kind of atmosphere. Kaygetsu in Menlo Park is excellent, but it is a quiet place and doesn't have a bar (other than sushi); also quite expensive.
