I posted last week looking for a Vietnamese restaurant near the Civic Center for a quick dinner, and got responses on Bodega Bistro and Mangosteen. We walked past both, and decided on Bodega Bistro. The warm interior was more inviting than Mangsteen's minimalist space.

My husband is a potsticker junkie, and these were the best I've had: skins weren't too thick, the oil content didn't overpower them, and the dipping sauce was a perfect complement. We followed that with two bun dishes, one with crab in a fried roll, and one with grilled pork. There was a long wait between courses, but when the dishes arrived they were incredible: big platters of lettuce leaf, some kind of wonderful leafy herbs (basil?), and a sauce that was sweet and sour, and kept us working our way through various wrap combinations. We brought home some of the pork leftovers, and my nephew raved about them.

Service was slow, but we managed to get in and out in our 45 minute time frame. I would definitely go back again to work my way through the menu.

Try the squab sometime. It's possibly the best squab I've ever had: perfectly crispy skin, juicy meat, nice subtle flavors that help the bird's own flavors shine.

I agree, and don't leave the little feet and head on your plate. Eat them too.
