anniversary dinner at Paley's in Portland

  • 4

Based on reviews from this board and also proximity to our hotel, I've decided on Paley's for an upcoming anniversary dinner. My question is about attire... We've never been to Portland before and I know it has a reputation for being casual. We generally like to get dressed up for dinner (tie, no jacket for him; cocktail dress for me or at least a skirt) but lately it seems like we are always overdressed, even at restaurants that we consider special occassion places. Thoughts on what people generally wear at Paleys? Thanks!

  1. If there's anywhere to dress up in Portland, Paley's is one of them. I've seen people in jackets and ties there.

    1. Yeah, Portland is a pretty casual town--it's hard to think of places where you would feel out of place in jeans. Even at the opera last year, I noticed a guy who was wearing Crocs gardening clogs--to be fair, they were black, so they were probably his dressy pair.

You might be one of the more nicely dressed couples at Paley's but I don't think you'd feel out of place. Another place that I've noticed is a little dressier is Bluehour, but I haven't been there for a while so I don't know if that's still true.

Definitely still true. I actually seemed a bit underdressed in shorts and a polo at brunch at Bluehour.

We ended up cancelling our trip to Portland because our dog needed to have surgery that weekend... but thanks anyway... will keep in mind for next time!
