Where to eat

I am new to this board so I apologize first if I am posting a subject that has appeared many times. I wasn't sure what to search for so I thought I would just post.

I will be staying in downtown Montreal for 3 days in August and wanted to make sure I hit the best spots for food. I plan to hit Schwartz's for smoked meat as I was told it is the best.

I am looking for recommendations on a good French restaurant and where I should eat when I'm in Old Montreal. Also, has anyone eaten at the restaurants in the Casino?
