I'm a New Yorker looking to buy an anniversary present for a couple of vegetarian friends who live in Cambridge. Any suggestions?

OM's in Harvard Square does a vegean dinner with wine pairings, I believe once a month. You may want to checkout their website.

I'll second Pegmeister's recommendation of OM and also suggest Oleana, another excellent Cambridge spot.

I have to suggest Oleana in Cambridge. My husband and I went there for the first time on Saturday and we both got the vegetarian tasting menu ($40). It was terrific. There are 5 "courses" plus desert. For 3 of three of the 5 and also for desert they brought us each different options so we ended up getting tastes of more than just 5 items each. All of the food was delicious and we really enjoyed the evening.

I'll second Oleana. I went there for my birthday last month, and the vegetarian tasting menu is fantastic, quite a culinary adventure. My companion didn't get it (silly man afraid of veggies :P) but I have also heard that they tend to vary the courses when more than one person in the party gets it. Also, the patio is a wonderful setting on a summer evening (though they don't take reservations for it); great atmosphere, very beautiful and relaxed, and when I was there (on a Tuesday; apparently that's the day they do this) there were musicians playing traditional Turkish instruments. Just lovely.

L'Espalier does a veggie tasting that is out of this world...

Does L'Espalier have good veggie entree options for lunch?

I'm not sure about veggie options at L'Espalier for lunch...you may want to check their website.

Folks on this board have also raved about the excellent and very affordable vegetarian tasting menu at Ten Tables in Jamaica Plain. I haven't had their tasting menu, but my birthday dinner there was incredible and I'm dying to get back there again.

I have had the veggie menu at ten tables and it was very tasty even though it was in the winter or very early spring so lots of root vegetables. I wrote a review of it but can't seem to find it right now... Would be a great choice as would Oleana.

Hands down Ten Tables or Oleana. Both excellent choices for any herbivores in your life.
