Car Hop Drive-ins in SoCal?

Anyone remember Bob's Big Boy in Toluca Lake or over on Colorado Blvd in Glendale, Tiny Naylor's at Sunset & La Brea, Dolores on Wilshire (and also way out west in West LA) and so forth. I grew up in Vancouver (eh?) where The White Spot at Park Royal was "it" for drive-ins. I can still remember sloppy Triple O Cheeseburgers at the White Spot in the 60's, so moving to Los Angeles in 1970 was coming to the Mecca for drive ins.

So where are they now? Other than Bob's in Toluca Lake (car hop service weekends only) and the prospect of the southern chain Sonic opening a gazillion branches in SoCal (they seem to be in every little hamlet in the South), do Chowhounds know of any remaining car hop service drive ins in Southern California?

If you're looking for a carhop drive in with rollerskating carhops (and somewhat scantily-clad carhops at that), there's:

    Angelo's Hamburgers
    511 S State College Blvd
    Anaheim, CA 92806, US
    (714) 533-1401

Burgers, beer, fries, Loud Jukebox music, etc. I think they may have the whole gyros and fried zucchini thing, too. Some nights they're packed, especially when they have custom car nights.

Don't expect Zagat-rated cuisine, but the burgers are fairly large and tasty.

And the carhops aren't bad to look at either...;-)

Sonic doesn't seem too interested in SoCal locations. Their web site shows the nearest one is in Tehachapi. I know they used to have one in Fullerton, perhaps it has been folded? OTOH Bakersfield is infested with them.
I liked them until they discontinued their BLT :-(.

There's one in Anaheim, on Lemon and the 91. I drive past it every day but have never stopped in -- Sonic is my usual destination when heading to Bakersfield (which contains Mesa Marin and, um, cows).

The pinnacle of cuisine they're not, but "shite" is too strong... and, well, Bakersfield in the company of people who won't eat Basque, I mean, come on.

Yup, that's the one. This site must be a mapping black hole, MS Live couldn't find this address, presumably at the very north border of Anaheim.

Angelo's on State College and Santa Ana in Anaheim does car hop service on designated nights. I never bother, because I'd rather sit on the patio so I can drink their $3.75 quarts of beer to wash down hamburgers and fried whatever (zucchini... mmmmmm...)

My favorite part of Frisco's (other than the car hops of course) is the parmesean sourdough they use on some burgers. They serve it elsewhere, but this is the first place I ever had it. Good stuff.

Frisco's has outside car hop service? Their web site seems to only be selling their "Hooters"-like appeal. But I suppose to fullfill the all important quest for real car hop service, the drive from downtown to Downey is a necessary sacrifice.
