Downtown 'hound here, seeking advice for a congenial place for high-quality burgers and beer after work in Midtown... will be at 50th St and 6th Ave on Friday afternoon, would like pointers to acceptable choices within walking distance on a hot, humid day.

Burger joint, at the Parker Meridien Hotel, although it may lose on the "congenial" front (which is not intended as an affront to the people who work there, who are very nice; it's just not the most comfortable place if you're looking to hang out for a while and unwind after work). It's certainly a great place for burgers and beer though.

Rare on 39th and Lex may fit the bill. PJ Clarks in the high 40s and 3rd as well.

Rare is on 37th and I'm pretty sure there is no food served on the rooftop.
