Where should we go for early dinner/drinks for 8 people??
Coming in from Philly for the day (a Saturday), but need to be on the train to a game at the Meadowlands by 6:30pm or so - I'm looking for a decent restaurant that will take reservations for 8 people, but that will serve early, maybe 4pm or even all day? I'm hoping we can find something for dinner, or even small plates, we're staying near Times Square (I know - total tourists) We just don't want to stand out as tourists :) Thanks for your help!

Trattoria Trecolori, on 47th St., b/t B'way & 8th Av., is a favorite of mine and many other Hounds. Very good homestyle Italian food served by friendly, efficient waiters in a large space with attractive decor. They stay open all afternoon, and they take reservations. Their website is down for refurbishment right now, but you can see the menu on Menupages. (Note: The geographical coordinates (b/t 6th & 7th Avs) on Menupages are *not* correct.)
Uncle Nick's, on 9th Av., b/t 50th & 51st Sts., serves tasty Greek food in a pleasant taverna-style setting. They stay open throughout the afternoon. I believe they take reservations, but if not, it's a large place and in mid-afternoon, I'm guessing even a group your size should have no trouble getting a table.

I like their pastas. When we were there a few weeks ago, I had one that was a special -- homemade pasta with ingredients that included chunks of sausage. On the regular menu, I like the Penne Arrabiata. Soups are always tasty, but I only order those during the winter. Last time, I had an excellent salad, which was also a special. For dessert, nothing beats the seriously delicious tiramisu.
