One night in Pismo Beach, one night in Monterey. Cheap dinners?

We're driving up the coast at the end of August, and spending one night in each place. Looking for dinners on the cheaper side - under $20/entree (or less!) that would be great choices.

  1. In the Monterey area, I think the best value restaurant is Passionfish at the corner of Congress and Lighthouse in Pacific Grove. Entrees from $15-$24. Most salads and appetizers under $10. Huge wine list with wines priced at retail. Excellent creative food for the money. Emphasis on sustainable seafood.

If you want to spend less, Amir's Kabob House has entrees under $20 and they are good with simple Afghani style presentations. The menu is more limited, but everything I ate was tasty (794 Lighthouse in Monterey). Ambrosia (565 Abrego) is an excellent Indian restaurant with most meat entrees around $15 - vegetarian entrees around $10. Krua Thai (731 Munras) isn't earth shatteringly good, but decent. No entree over $15.

    Enjoy the trip!

    1. In Pismo we really liked a place called "Two Blocks From the Beach"

      Nice sandwiches, salads, great bruschetta.
      very affordable, great atmosphere.

My other affordable fav is Splash Cafe in Pismo. I would go to Splash for lunch and have the clam chowder bread bowl and Two Blocks for dinner

      1. In Pismo I love to go to Splash Cafe. They have the best clam chowder with toasted bread bowls.
I agree with Ed about Passionfish. Also, look at Hula's on Lighthouse they have decent food. Last time I had their Ribs they fell right off the bone. If you like pastries in the morning go to Pavels also in Pacific Grove

OHHHH, love but love Splash Cafe clam chowder! Just discussing this on another subject thread. Rich beyond! Worth every spoonful! Also love the steamed clams which are not plain! Nobody should leave Pismo without trying out Splash! Nothing fancy, simple, order, claim a seat, enjoy!

Ended up at Mo's Smokehouse in Pismo for dinner. After a LONG day of driving, it was perfect, and the vinegar bbq sauced - Filthy Phil's - ribs were incredible!
