Nouvelle Chef Andy Yang

When Nouvelle first opened Andy was the chef owner. About six months ago he left Nouvelle. Does anybody know which restaurant he is cooking at now. His food was delicious. Thanks in advance for replies.

  1. Good question. Nouvelle aint what it used to be. It used to be my fave restaurant in BR.

I agree with you jamie. Nouvelle used to be my favorite in BR also until Andy left.

    2. I must have gotten there after he left because when I went, it was one of the worst experiences (food & service) in my recent memory.

But if he was chef owner, then what happened? Did he sell it off or is he just merely an absent owner?

      1. Just ran across this note in the NYT's fall restaurant preview. Assuming this is the same Andy Yang, he's opening a "Thai-inspired" small-plates place called Kurve in the East Village ... http://www.nytimes.com/2007/09/05/din...

Thank you for letting me know about Andy Yang. Will check it out to see if it is the same Andy Yang from Nouvelle.

        2. Try Rhong-Tiam at 541 Laguardia Place in the Village.

Andy is the chef/owner of Rhong-Tiam. The food is different from what he was doing at Nouvelle. Lots of fried dishes, heavy sauces. Some of it was fine, some disappointing. I miss his cooking at Nouvelle.

          2. For those of you who have eaten halfway decent sushi and understand the quality of fish and rice versus lousy fish dressed up with fruit and sweet sauce will understand that eating at Nouvelle is not worth it. I have given it two chances and I would have probably been better off going to Arirang.

100% with you on that. Bay Ridge is pretty hopeless when it comes to quality food for reasonable price. Take the R and head northbound.

I beg to differ. BR has a lot of variety price, quality and style wise. The sushi used to be really good at Nouvelle but I hope that you are not judging the neighborhood by one restaurant that has changed chefs.

I've eaten good food in that neighborhood. Just not from that restaurant.
