Sugar Butter Flour in Sunnyvale

This bakery is excellent. On Bernardo near El Camino...close to Mtn. View and Rt. 85. I believe the owner is one of the pastry chefs at Manresa. They use butter of course and the desserts that I have had there have been mostly top quality. The shortbread is buttery and has very refreshing lemon flavor to it. The croissant are very good though a little different from the traditional French variety. At $4, the pastry are quite reasonable but I haven't had a chance to taste most of them. The fruit tart I had was very good with a buttery shell, fresh fruit of course. A great value and a wonderful surprise for an area not known for culinary.

I also had a very good sandwich there, a chicken breast with pesto that was very tasty.

Their strengths seem to their dessert, less so their baked goods. But the cakes are yummy...bought a tiramisu cake for mom's b-day and she said it was the best she's ever had. Husband had chocolate dome and enjoyed it. The people who work here are friendly and helpful. If I need a higher end dessert, this is the place I hit.

      It's hit and miss.

But the hits are spectacular. The Chocolate Truffle Cake and Chocolate Dome individual desserts are awesome.

I went to this bakery a few weeks ago and unfortunately came away unimpressed. I've been looking for a sweet croissant similar to the one at Bay Bread, and the one here was nothing like it. It didn't have the flaky butteryness or a generous amount of filling that great croissants should have. I also tried a chocolate cookie that I found dry, it tasted a bit old.
