Looking for soft serve ice cream tasting frozen yogurt in Hollywood NOT Pinkberry!

Hey all, I posted a recent post regarding pinkberry, which I find gross. It turned into a weird argument about who uses powder and who doesn't. I don't care since the stuff I like is inherently faux anyway.

Sooooo, what I really wanted to find out is are there any old school frozen yogurt places that do the NOT TART style fro yogurt in Mid City LA? I know Toppers on Beverly and The Bigg Chill on the Westside, any others? Thanks.

  1. 21 Choices in Pasadena and Claremont. This is the best non-tart frozen yogurt that I know of. There is also a Penguin's in La Canada that does a decent banana strawberry smoothie. I find that the frozen yogurt at Penguin's is not as good as the frozen yogurt at 21 Choices, in general. I don't know of anything in Hollywood, though.

    1. How about Svelte Yogurt in Silver Lake -- on Hyperion and Griffith Park, in the same mini mall as Hard Times Pizza.

      1. Beverly Place Yogurt in the northwest corner's minimall at Beverly and Crescent Heights

        Beyond Hollywood, for reference...

Yogurt Factory on Santa Monica 3 blocks from Bundy.

In case you're out in the valley one day,

Studio Yogurt at Ventura and Laurel as mentioned carries a good variety.

Yogurt Delite at Magnolia and Coldwater Canyon; good machines here too.

Yogurt Zone at Woodley and Ventura.

California Pita and Grill in Woodland Hills has wow cow and a couple of nonfat others; the vanilla wow cow is one of the best I've tasted... good machine, and yes, the machines make a difference.

I second Studio Yogurt. The flavors change Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. You can call in to see which flavors they have. Cookies n Cream is one of my favorites.

        2. If you're ever in SFV, Humphrey's in Sherman Oaks (on Van Nuys, north of Ventura in mini-mall w/ Gelson's) is the best!

They have (or had. It's been a while.) a Double Rainbow ice cream there that is so divine. It's called "It's A Goody," with vanilla ice cream, chocolate chunks, and peanut butter. Destination worthy.

I like Humphrey's, too. You can request tart or sweet yogurt. :)

            2. my freind loves Berrygood its on robertson between wilsher and Olimpic, super-duper kosher place.

              1. I would have to say Humphreys or Penguins because they have Carbawhey. It's 20 calories for 4 ounces and it tastes like heaven.

I have always wanted to try Carbawhey - do you have an address for a place that has it?

                2. Yogurtland has both sweet and tart flavors, and lots of em. And it's cheap!
Self serve by weight, tart flavors all say tart on the machine and they'll give you little taster cup if you ask. They have more sweet than tart.

                  1. Ice Cream Plus at Sunset and Crescent Heights (next to Pollo Loco and McDonalds) is the best I've had anywhere. Tried Penguins, Humphrey Yogart, Pinkberry etc.
Ice Cream Plus has yogurt, Fat Free, Sugar Free, Low Fat and they all taste like ice cream. Great sandwiches, healthy fresh juices and a friendly family running the place.

I've tried Ice Cream Plus and don't understand the rave reviews (4.5 on Yelp!?) It was okay, but it's no Scoops or Glacier.

                    2. Have you tried the frozen custard at Lucky Devil's on Hollywood Boulevard?

                      1. You must try Yogurtland on La Brea just south of Third Street on the east side of the street. Great yogurt with all the toppings, self serve and only thirty cents an ounce.
Just noticed that this is an old post, but must try.
