Flemings, Athans Bakery, and Barking Crab Report
hi all
my dh & i came to boston from the berkshires for a quick 24 hour get-away this weekend.
we had dinner at flemings ( i know, i know- its a chain but it is sentimental to us from our newport beach days and we love it ) it was GREAT. the champagne-brie and cabernet-gorgonzola they serve you when you sit was soooooo good. i had the spicy bbq shrimp for app and the filet with bernaise for dinner. we had drinks, 2 bottles of wine, no dessert ( we went elsewhere ) and the bill with tip was $360 ( for 4 of us ) its pretty damn $$$ but it was awesome food and a great time.
the next morning our friends we were staying at went to athans bakery in brighton and brought back the TASTIEST almond pastry ever and a really good chocolate croissant too. i never do that kind of thing for breakfast, it was a nice treat and delicious.
that afternoon we played tourist and we ate lunch at the barking crab on the open air part of it. i thought it was great. good atmosphere ( for that type of thing ) and i tried my first calamari/pepperocini combo. i have never had it with the peppers and i LOVED it. also had the blackened swordfish sandwich and that was really good too. just a fun place to chill and have some beer and grub. it was perfect.
then we had to come home :( back to reality...
thanks boston for a tasty 24 hours!

Thanks for the report. That almond pastry from Athan's is great, isn't it? It's billed as an almond croissant, but filled with a lush creme that makes it more like a old fashioned Bavarian creme doughnut than its French second cousin. I made the mistake of bringing them home to the folks, and now I have to present a box before they will let me in the door. ;)
