Margate, Ventnor, Longport recs??
Any really wonderful places down the shore in this area? From a hole in the wall serving delicious eats to a place that has it all from atmosphere to quality food to great service.
Thanks!
(And are there any standouts among the new AC casino restaurants?)
We spent the weekend with family in Margate a few weeks ago. For one dinner, we had takeout from Bobby Chez in Margate. We had crab cakes and side dishes (salads and garlic mashed potatoes) and it was all excellent! The reputation they've earned for their crab cakes is well-deserved. The evening before that we had dinner at Buddakan -- also wonderful food, but too noisy and too rushed for my dining dollars.

Longport doesn't have much of a restaurant scene, though Fai's has above-average Chinese and Ozzie's is great (but expensive) for breakfast. In Margate, Sofia, Tomatoe's, and Steve & Cookie's are all good choices, but of the three towns Ventnor has the most diverse restaurants. Try newcomer Manna at Ventnor & Frederickburg Avenues for reasonable French-American cuisine like flank steak with potato gratin, sweet and tart tomato and crab risotto, and a killer roast chicken. Closer to AC, Yama around Atlantic & Surrey Avenues is peerless for sushi and cooked Japanese items like himachi kama, broiled yellowtail collar. There's a little ceviche dive down the block I haven't tried yet. Nostalgia Room across the street is good and inexpensive, and Sage next door (from Lisa Savage of Savaradio) has a great buzz going this season.

I've never eaten there, but everyone, including Craig LaBan, raves about Dune in Margate. Steve & Cookie's gets raves, it's just ok to me. Some of my favorites in Margate are:
Sofia- beautiful restaurant, good food and cocktails
Barrel's- low key homemade Italian; they do take out also. Try a soup-the owner's mom makes them fresh daily (I love the lentil)
Junior's Donuts & Dogs- what doughnuts should be....try a cinnamon twist
DeLuca's Diner & Brick Oven Pizza- typical breakfast/lunch type place; it's not fantastic, but their pizza is the best in Margate in my opinion.
Bobby Chez- a local takeout favorite
Ventura's Greenhouse- good food and atmosphere, but it gets crowded fast!
Places to avoid:
Lamberti's- overpriced and horrific service. been there twice and both times service was god awful
Dairy Barn- avoid the hype for the overpriced ice cream. Instead, walk across the street to Two Cents Plain. They make fresh waffles there too.
Hope that helps!
