Peter Luger ... weekend lunch = weeknight dinner? [moved from Manhattan board]

Does anyone here know if the "menus" at PL are identical for weekend lunch and weekend dinner ... or more specifically, can the porterhouses with the regular sides be had on Sunday afternoon? Obviously, it's tough to squeeze into a reservation for M-F but they had a slot open for Sunday.

Thanks in advance for any feedback provided.

  1. Yes, you can get the porterhouse and regular sides during lunch on the weekend. They have burgers, too. The one time I've been was Saturday at 1pm, and while the burgers looked tempting I went for the porterhouse and was not sorry!

    1. The burgers are outstanding, but I agree that the porterhouse is the reason to go to Luger.

Make a reservation though. Rumors abound that due to the shortage of Prime beef lately, non-reservation diners get served Choice.

Not a "rumor"- I was there for dinner and had a long discussion with a waiter about it.

If you don't have a reservation you can't get the porterhouse. Either have to get steak for 1 or the ribeye.

There really is a shortage of the finest quality beef. My butcher told me the same thing. He is having difficulty getting top quality beef, and buys from the same provider as PL. The corn is being used to make Ethanol instead of to feed the cattle.

          2. An added attraction is that Peter Luger has just been named The Best Steak in the US by Bon Appetit Magazine in their newest Restaurant issue.
