After checking with the board, went to Surya on 3rd St. with a large party Friday night. Ordered 5 very different mains and a handful of apps. Regretfully, this trip did not change my low opinion of Indian food in LA.

Other posts here specified the Tandoori fish-- The dish that arrived to us was so salty as to be inedible. I returned it to the kitchen, was informed by staff that the chef had tasted it and determined there to be nothing wrong, and did I want him to remove the charge from the bill? I said he could do as he saw fit, but we weren't going to eat the dish. The charge was removed.

The remaining dishes were indistinguishable from each other. I couldn't even guess which was the chicken and which was the lamb. I'm not the world's most experienced Indian 'hound, but I do expect my Chicken tikka masala to be distinct from my lamb tamarindo.

Not good.

Bummer.

That's too bad, because I thought possibly they were the only decent Indian food in the area. Have you tried their sibling Holy Cow? We had them cater a dinner at the office which was quite solid I thought.
I recently tried the new location of India's Tandoori on Wilshire and it was horrible.
Maybe we all need to take a long break from looking for good Indian food until the next time we get to India, or London.
