Tips for Dining, Eating and Food Shopping in the New England

Roseland Apizza

Wow. This place never disappoints. My parents grew up in Shelton, CT and they went to Roseland as kids. I now come there with my kid. Hands down, one of the best places to get pizza and great Italian food. The thing is that, unless you lived here or knew someone from around here, you probably would never find this place because it is hidden in a residential neighborhood. Also, it's not cheap, so don't go there thinking that its a dive with dive prices. The lines to get in can be long, so have patience. Last night, I had a wonderful Shrimp Parmigiana, my sister had a Baked Lobster Penne dish that was so rich we could only eat about a quarter of it in one sitting, we shared a beautiful antipasto featuring excellent meats, artichoke hearts, peppers, crisp delightful olives, you know, the works. Their seafood dishes rarely disappoint, and neither do their pizzas. Big thumbs up. Oh yeah, and their Lobster Ravioli are incredible. Huge chunks of lobster abound.

  1. God, I love this place. The best down home Italian on the east coast, bar none. Nothing in Boston, NYC, or Providence compares. I live 100 miles away and haven't been there in a couple of years so thanks for reminding me. I'm going to take a ride down there this week. Anyone want to join me?

We do a pie from Roseland every week or two, so look for me at the takeout window. We've been going there for 15 years plus, both for takeout and sit-down, and we have never had one bad meal there. There is one waitress we try to avoid, but that is the only not-stellar thing I can say about Roseland, and definitely something we can live with..
