La Perrada de Edgar 6976 Collins Avenue
Try not to push me out of the line at this new Colombian Hot Dog-a-ria today. Please do not discuss your Atkins diet, your Zone diet or the revolutionary Nutrisystem program. Deez dogs are topped with cheese, bacon, meatballs, potato sticks, pineapple, cheese sauce, shrimp, crab, etc.
Note with abandon that El Rey del Chivito is a neighbor. This area is now officially on the Weight Watchers No Fly List. El Rey - 6987 Collins Ave, (305) 864-5566
Unless you count the wonderfully fresh fruit salads at Athens Juice Bar 6942 Collins Ave, (305) 861-2143 which I SAY I am going to bring home to flush out the Super Edgar Dogs I've been eating VERY late at night ths week.
Yes, they promised me they will be 24 hours soon... Yo quiero perro caliente gratis!
Woof!

Oh my. I tried one of these this weekend. There are more than a dozen different possible hot dog topping combinations available, most assigned some ethnicity (though many of these seem somewhat random), some truly ... umm ... original? (How about a dog with pineapple, peach and whipped cream?). I went fairly conservative with a "Colombian" which came with onions, mustard, mayo, pink sauce, shredded cheese, and potato sticks. The dog comes off a roller-grill, stuck into a bun, some toppings go on, into a steamer to heat up, more toppings go on, and presto! The dog itself was nothing special, the bun was nice, fluffy and doughy, but the whole thing is really just a vehicle for the mess of toppings (which are slathered quite generously). Guilty pleasure indeed. No doubt these are much better after 2am and quite inebriated, though not bad as an occasional stone-cold sober lunch.

re: Frodnesor
I'll admit, I went the unconventional way (whipped cream, anyone?) and I was kind of blown away by how well the flavors worked together. Come to think of it, pineapple on a hot dog makes as much sense as having pineapple on baked ham! I enjoyed the dog, even though it's a guilty pleasure and not anything special, like Frod stated, but the toppings definitely made all the difference.
