AL's Diner – Rest In Poutine

  • 3

I just called up to Midland ON to get their hours, my girlfriend and I were going to celebrate our anniversary there, as we did a year ago over the best home made burgers ever, bacon cheeseburger with a side of rings was perfect. Formerly known as Tawp Dawg, the number listed was Al's cell and he told me the place burned down last month, for anyone who has been there it is sad news.

*glimmer of hope*
...Freshwood Grill in Kennsington is certainly getting it right, as does Utopia on College...the quest continues for best burger...

albeit with alternate spelling for the restaurant. Is he planning to re-build or start over?

Sorry to re-hash old news...I was a bit shocked when I heard the news and having it come from the mouth of the owner felt sympathetic and didn't press him for details...I do hope he starts over...although I am curious, grease fire by any chance??

Apparently quite a serious fire, with 20 firefighters at the scene on Thursday, May 24, about 10 p.m., according to the local paper. Significant damage. No cause has yet been determined. I've been frequenting the Lafontaine / Penetang / Midland area for more than 40 years and have to admit, i've never been to Al's Diner, aka Tawp Dawg. If he starts up again, we'll make an effort to check it out. Was it licensed? I guess not, if it was a diner.
